I grew up in the 1990’s and was introduced to Robin Williams when he played the Genie in Disney’s ‘Aladdin’. Like many kids who saw that film back in 1992, I remember sitting in the theater in stitches, holding my stomach, laughing out loud as I watched Robin Williams bring a simple role to a whole new level. Ask any kid, one of the reasons we all laughed so hard during that film was the brilliant voice performance by Williams. His antics, impressions and charisma made the Genie character into a total scene stealer.

It was hard to hear the news of his passing today since he died of an apparent suicide. Like many of us, I have had many times in my life where I have felt depressed and heartbroken. I went through a bought earlier this year and Robin Williams helped me thorough it. I highly recommend you YouTube his interview on ‘Inside the Actor’s Studio’ as well as his appearance on ‘Who’s Line is it Anyway?’ I was also sad to hear that his TV show ‘The Crazy Ones’ was cancelled earlier this year after just one season. I myself loved that show and loved seeing Robin Williams return to television after a 30 year absence.

Robin Williams left a whole host of amazing performances in film and below I’m going to list my top 5 favourite and most memorable. Before I do, I would like to thank Robin Williams for introducing me to comedy after watching ‘Aladdin’ as a 9 year old boy. He has brought me, and the world, tons of laughter and will be sadly missed.

My Favourite Robin Williams Movies:

1) ‘Good Morning, Vietnam’

2) ‘Aladdin’

3) ‘The Fisher King’

4) ‘Dead Poet Society’

5) ‘Good Will Hunting’

And finally, here’s a link to the song ‘Friend Like Me’ from the film ‘Aladdin’. R.I.P. Robin!
