According to the folks at Box Office Mojo, the top 5 highest grossing films of this past weekend were as followed:

1) Guardians of the Galaxy – $17.6 million
2) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – $16.8 million
3) If I Stay – $16.3 million
4) Let’s Be Cops – $11 million
5) When the Game Stands Tall – $9 million

The good news this week is that ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ just became the highest grossing film of the summer. The bad news? ‘Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’ completely bombed. It took 6th place this past weekend and took in $6.4 million on a $70 million budget.

It should be no surprise that waiting nine years to produce a sequel is what made ‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’ loose the majority of its audience. This, of course, would put off plans for a third film and thus adapting all the stories in the ‘Sin City’ graphic novel series, which was something I looked forward to, into films.

Well this is a shame, I must give a big fanboy, comic nerd round of applause to James Gunn, Kevin Feige, the cast and crew of Guardians and Marvel Studios. You all earned it!
